For the General Public and the Students of the Affiliated Schools

Members of the general public (over 18 years of age at the beginning of the school year), Fukuoka University Ohori Senior High School students, and Fukuoka University Wakaba High School students,can use the Central Library and the Branches of the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Sports and Health Science by following the prescribed procedures. Note that there will be periods where the library cannot be used due to events, etc. taking place at the university. Also note that materials cannot be lent out. Please note that the campus is not open to vehicle traffic; please use public transportation when visiting the library.

How to use the library

Procedures for using the library

1day use only

Please bring a valid ID (driver's license, health insurance card, or other official document) that states your name and current address and come directly to the library and room that you want to use. You will be given a library card ("Visitor CARD"). Please wear it on you when you enter the library. Return the card to the counter when you leave.
Note:High school students shall bring their student handbooks, and students of other universities shall bring their student IDs.

Continued Use

Please bring a valid ID (driver's license, health insurance card, or other official document) that states your name and current address and come to the Information Counter on the first floor of the Central Library. We will issue you a library card ("FUL CARD"). Applications are also accepted by mail and email. If you apply by mail or email, you will be asked to present a valid ID to receive your FUL Card.
Note:High school students shall bring their student handbooks, and students of other universities shall bring their student IDs.
Note:Please be aware that issuing a card may take some time.

Office hours

Weekdays: Until one hour before closing    Saturday: Until noon

Term of validity of FUL CARD

Until the end of the academic year in which the card was issued(March 31).
Card renewal is necessary at the start of a new academic year, even if a full year has not yet passed since you acquired the card.

Renewal / Reissue of the FUL CARD

Beginning in April, the procedure for renewing your FUL Card will require that you present the card and a valid ID.
If, after your card is issued, your status changes from general public to Parents Association or from high school student to general public or student of another university, etc., you will likewise be required to present your FUL Card and a valid ID.

Calendar

The library may not be used during the first semester exam period, the second semester exam period, or the entrance exam period.
Changes in hours and temporary closings will be announced on bulletin boards, the library website, etc.

When entering/exiting the library and branches

The Central Library and Branch of the Faculty of Science are equipped with entrance and exit gates. Please show your Visitor CARD or FUL CARD at the gates to enter.Follow the same procedure when exiting as well. Each library (branch) has a book detection system installed. An alarm will sound if you carry out any materials without going through the proper lending procedure. If the system is activated, please follow the instructions of the library staff.

Available services

Viewing/Copying Materials

You are free to read the materials on the shelves within the library. In order to read materials in the Central Library ASRS, take note of the title, call number, and Holdings ID you wish to access and then visit the Main Counter on the 2nd floor of the Central Library.Library materials may be only copied for education, research, and survey purposes in accordance with copyright laws. When making copies, be sure to fill out the "Copy Application Form" provided and submit it at the counter. Only library materials can be copied in the library. The copy fee is 10 yen per black and white copy and 50 yen per color copy.

The following services are not available.

  • Borrowing of materials
  • Collection search via telephone
  • Campus dedicated online service
  • Use of databases, e-journals, e-books
  • Use of PCs and other equipment (including use of the Internet), except for OPAC Search

When using the library

  • Please observe the library rules when using library facilities, equipment, and materials.
  • Please place materials on the return cart after use.
  • Please do not leave your belongings unattended at the desk in the library.
  • Please refrain from eating, drinking, whispering, chatting, or using mobile phones outside the designated areas.
  • You may not eat in the library.
  • Smoking is prohibited in the library.

Please note that there are "Refreshment Corners" on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of the Central Library. You may drink beverages and use mobile phones in the Refreshment Corners. You may not, however, eat in these areas. Furthermore, you may not bring in and/or study materials from the library.
