For Visitors

Medical workers, and faculty members and students of other universities or medical technical schools may use the Medical Library by conducting certain procedures. However, usage is not permitted during some periods due to national examinations, etc. Further, the borrowing of materials is not permitted.
Please note that cars cannot be driven onto campus when visiting the libraries, so we ask that you use public transportation.

Procedures for Usage

Please bring a form of personal identification which contains your name and current address (an official document such as a driver's license or a health insurance card), and visit the Medical Library counter.
Please fill out the necessary fields (name, address, contact information. etc.) in the application form. We will lend you a library usage permit (hereinafter, "Visitor CARD"); please wear it in the library. Please return the Visitor CARD at the counter when leaving.

Schedule

The library is closed on August 15 and December 29 to January 3 of the following year.
From January to early March, before national examinations for medical doctors and nurses, usage of the library is not permitted.
Information regarding changes in hours and temporary closures is provided via displays, on the Fukuoka University Library website, etc.
Incidentally, the regular open hours are 8:50 AM to 10:00 PM.

Entering/Exiting

The entrance/exit is on 2F of the Medical Information Center.
A book detection system (unauthorized take-out prevention device) is installed there. When materials are taken without following the borrowing procedure, an alarm will sound. When the device has been activated, please follow the instructions of the library staff.

When Using the Library

  • Please follow usage regulations when using library facilities, equipment, materials, etc.
  • Please place materials used within the library on a return counter.
  • Please do not leave your belongings in the library when stepping away from your seat.
  • Food cannot be consumed in the library.
  • Drinks may be consumed at the Medical Library in sealed containers (plastic bottles, water bottles, etc.) in the reading areas (except where library materials and precision equipment are located).
  • For cell phone calls in the Medical Library, please use the "Refreshment Corner" on the 3rd floors.
  • Smoking is not allowed on the university grounds.

Available Services

Reading/Reproducing (Copying) Materials

Materials on the periodicals floor (2F) and the books floor (3F) can be read inside the library.
When using materials in the closed stacks (1F), please make a request at the counter.
Library materials can be copied, but only for the purposes of education, research, and/or investigation (fees apply). Please use the materials within the scope of their respective copyrights. When making copies, please fill out the necessary fields in the "Document Reproduction Application" provided, and submit the application at the counter. Only library materials can be copied in the library. The copying fee is 10 yen per page for black and white prints, and 50 yen per page for color prints.
The following services cannot be used.

  • Borrowing materials
  • Catalog searches via phone
  • Dedicated university online services
  • Usage of databases, electronic journals, and electronic books
  • Usage of PC equipment. However, usage of OPAC is permitted
