For Visitors

Visitors (at least 18 years of age as of April 1 of the applicable academic year) may use the Central Library, Faculty of Science Library, Faculty of Engineering Library, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, Faculty of Sports and Health Science Library (hereafter referred to as “faculty libraries”) by following the prescribed procedures. However, these libraries will be unavailable for usage during certain periods due to Fukuoka University events and the like. Further, the borrowing of materials is not permitted.
Please note that cars cannot be driven onto campus when visiting the libraries, so we ask that you use public transportation.

Procedures for Usage

Please come directly to the library (room) you wish to use with your identification document (official document such as driver's license or My Number Card) that shows your name and current address.
You will be given a library user permit (hereinafter referred to as “Visitor CARD”). Please wear it when entering the library. When you leave the library, please return the Visitor CARD to the counter.
Students from other universities must bring their student ID card.

Schedule

The libraries cannot be used during first semester examinations, second semester examinations, and university entrance examinations. For days and hours of operation for the Central Library, the Medical Library, and the faculty libraries, please check the schedule.
Information regarding changes in hours and temporary closures is provided via displays, on the Fukuoka University Library website, etc.

Entering/Exiting

The Central Library has a building entrance/exit gate. Please scan your Visitor CARD at the gate before entering.
Please also exit by following the same procedure as when entering. A book detection system (unauthorized take-out prevention device) is installed at each library. When materials are taken without following the borrowing procedure, an alarm will sound. When the device has been activated, please following the instructions of the library staff.

Available Services

Reading/Reproducing (Copying) Materials

Materials on the shelves are freely available in the reading room. Please place materials used in the reading room on the designated return table.
For use of materials whose location is indicated as “Central Library ASRS ”, please click here(Japanese).
For materials with the location "Central Oversized Books Stacks (1)," "Central Oversized Books Stacks (2)," "Central Microform Material Stacks," "Central2F Main Counter," "Central Special Needs Support Room (201)," or "Central Special Needs Support Room (202)" displayed in OPAC, please conduct procedures at the Central Library 2F Main Counter.

Library materials may be photocopied (for a fee) for educational, research, and investigative purposes only, within the limits of copyright law.When making reproductions, please fill out the necessary fields in the "Document Reproduction Application" provided, and submit the application at the counter. The copying fee is 10 yen per page for black and white prints, and 50 yen per page for color prints.

The following services cannot be used.

  • Borrowing materials
  • Catalog searches via phone
  • Dedicated university online services
  • Usage of databases, electronic journals, and electronic books
  • Usage of PCs (including Internet usage) other than OPAC
  • Usage of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM
  • Entry to Group study rooms, PC room, and Audio-Visual room

Usage Notes

Please observe the following precautions to ensure a pleasant experience.

  • Please follow usage regulations when using library facilities, equipment, materials, etc.
  • Please do not leave your belongings in the libraries when stepping away from your seat.
  • Food and drink are allowed only in designated areas of the Central Library (snack area in front of the Multipurpose Hall on the first floor of the Central Library and refreshment corners on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors) as long as it is light.
  • Beverages in sealed containers such as plastic bottles or water bottles may be consumed only in the Central Library, Medical libraries, and at the reading desks of the faculty libraries except for the areas where library materials and precision instruments are installed.
  • For cell phone calls in the Central Library, please use the "Refreshment Corner" on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors.
  • Smoking is not allowed on the university grounds.
