Reading/Reproducing (Copying) Materials

Materials on the shelves are freely available in the reading room. Please place materials used in the reading room on the designated return table and do not return them to the stacks.
Library materials can be reproduced, but only for the purposes of education, research, and/or investigation (fees apply). Please use the materials within the scope of their respective copyrights. When making reproductions, please fill out the necessary fields in the "Document Reproduction Application" provided, and submit the application at the counter. Only library materials can be reproduced at the libraries. The copying fee is 10 yen per page for black and white prints, and 50 yen per page for color prints.

Borrowing/Returning

Borrowing

At the faculty libraries, please place your student ID card or employee card on the materials you wish to borrow, and conduct borrowing procedures at the counter.
At the Central Library, please use the automated checkout machines. For materials that cannot be borrowed with the automatic checkout machines, please make a request at the counter.

  • For materials with the location "Central Library ASRS (Japanese)" displayed in OPAC, please click the "Available" button from a PC in the Central Library or a faculty library, write the displayed "Applying No." on the "ASRS Reception Number Form," and submit the form to the Central Library 2F Main Counter.
  • For materials with the location "Central Oversized Books Stacks (1)," "Central Oversized Books Stacks (2)," "Central Microform Material Stacks," "Central2F Main Counter," "Central Special Needs Support Room (201)," or "Central Special Needs Support Room (202)" displayed in OPAC, please conduct procedures at the Central Library 2F Main Counter.
  • When borrowing accompanying materials (CDs, etc.) for reading room materials, please make a request at the counter.

* Long-term lending will be available during the long holidays. Details are provided via displays, on the Fukuoka University Library website, etc.
* Please check the Medical Library website for details on the item limits and durations for borrowing from the Medical Library.
* If you wish to extend the borrowing period for a material you are borrowing, you can extend it from "MyLibrary" unless there is a reservation.

Materials Not Available for Borrowing

The below materials cannot be lent for use outside of the libraries. Please use them in the libraries.

Returning

Please be sure to return materials you have borrowed by the return deadline. Materials can be returned at any counter at the Central Library, the Medical Library, and the faculty libraries.
In the case of failing to return materials within the return deadline, lending will be suspended for the number of days exceeding the deadline.

Reserve

When materials you wish to borrow have been lent to someone else, you can reserve them.
Further, you can reserve materials you wish to borrow from the Central Library, the Medical Library, or one of the faculty libraries, and have them sent to another one of the libraries.
Please make a request by using the "Reserve" button on OPAC. Please note that you can specify any counter for pickup.

Usage of Audio-Visual Materials

Audio-visual materials can only be used within the libraries. Please note that viewing/listening is only permitted for materials in the library catalog.

Central Library

Materials are arranged in the 2F Audio-Visual Room. A student ID card or employee card is necessary to use them.
When you wish to use a material, please freely take it and view/listen to it in an audio-visual booth. The power turns on when a student ID card or employee card is inserted into a scanning device in the booth, and the power turns off when the card is removed. Please place the material you have used on the return counter.

Faculty Libraries

Please bring the material to the counter along with your student ID card or employee card. After conducting procedures, please view/listen to the material in an AV booth in the faculty library.
Please return the material you have used to the counter.

Usage of Rare Books

We have in our catalog rare books, including foreign books, Japanese books, and Chinese texts from the 18th century or earlier. Prior application is required to read these books. Please see "Facility Information (Room Usage)" on the "Usage Information" page (Japanese) for information.

Reference Service

The Reference Service is a service that offers support in response to user consultations regarding a variety of questions that arise during usage. Please feel free to inquire with a library staff. Inquiries are also accepted through the ASK Service on the Fukuoka University Library website.

ILL (Interlibrary Loan) Service

When the material you need is not available in the Fukuoka University Library catalog, you can apply online to reserve a reproduction or an original copy from within Japan or abroad.
Further, you can also reserve a reproduction from the Central Library, the Medical Library, or one of the faculty libraries and have it delivered to another one of the libraries.
The ILL (Interlibrary Loan) Service is a paid service.

Purchase Requests

You can make a purchase request online for materials not available in the Fukuoka University Library catalog.
In principle, purchases are not conducted for materials in the Fukuoka University Library catalog, so please be sure to check on OPAC before applying. Purchase requests cannot be made for periodicals.

Application for Interuniversity Library Usage Referral Letter

A referral letter may be necessary when going directly to the library of another university and using materials there.
For information on using the library of the university you will visit, please check the relevant website, etc. beforehand.
If you wish to request the issuance of a referral letter, please specify the material you will use and verify on OPAC that the material is not available in the Fukuoka University Library catalog.
Please make clear the desired date (or duration) of your visit.
Referral letters cannot be issued on the same day, so be sure to apply one week before the desired date of receiving the referral letter.
Please receive the referral letter at the Central Library 2F Main Counter.

National Diet Library Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries

Of materials digitized by the National Diet Library, those which have not been released on the Internet and are difficult to obtain due to being out of print, etc. may be read or reproduced (printed) at the Central Library.

Eligible Library Users

Undergraduates, Graduate Students, and Employees of Fukuoka University.
You will need your student ID card or employee card.

Reading/Reproducing (Copying) Materials

  • This service can be used at a dedicated PC (1 PC) set up at the Central Library 2F Main Counter after login operations have been conducted by a library staff.
  • Please make a request to a library staff member if you wish to obtain a reproduction.
    Regardless of the paper size, the reproduction (output) fee is 10 yen per page for a black and white print.
    We cannot make change for bills, so please prepare coins in advance.

  • Weekdays (Monday to Friday) 9:00 - 17:00
    * This service is not available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Usage Notes

  • Materials that are " Available with Digitized Contents Transmission Service" are eligible in the National Diet Library Digital Collections.
  • Downloading or saving digital images, or taking photographs with a camera, etc. is prohibited.

Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Individuals

The Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Individuals is provided by the National Diet Library, Japan, (the NDL) as a means of making digitized versions of out-of-print or otherwise difficult-to-obtain materials available to the general public via the Internet from device such as personal computers.
